Ableworld is the largest mobility retail chain in the country and pioneered the concept of the one-stop mobility superstore. Our founder and managing director, Mike Williams, is a vastly experienced retailer and has opened somewhere in the region of 300 stores during his career.

Our History

Ableworld was founded by Mike nearly twenty years ago when he spotted a gap in the market for a modern retail operation in the mobility sector, after searching for some products for his elderly father. What he found at the time horrified him as he was offered poorly packaged and high-priced goods sold from unattractive backstreet shops. He founded Ableworld to challenge and change that.

After extensive market research, Ableworld opened its first store in 2001. Ten stores later in 2010 the decision was made to expand its trusted brand and offer its successful business model as a franchise opportunity.

As part of the preparations, in 2010, Ableworld successfully went through the comprehensive vetting procedure to become a member of the British Franchise Association; the first mobility retailer to do so. Ableworld is still a member of the BFA as well as several other industry bodies.


Where We Are Now

Ableworld has experienced support managers who visit stores on a regular basis to help with ongoing training, brand adherence, coaching, and marketing support. This, together with the sort of head office support you would expect from a national retail chain, means that help is never very far away.

Ableworld’s strategy from the beginning was to build a trustworthy brand and it has grown significantly, opening company stores and franchise stores. Going forward the main engine of growth will be via the franchise model.

Ableworld are targeting a national coverage of 60-70 stores in five years’ time with at least 60% of the total being franchise-owned outlets. Ableworld’s longer term aim is to have a mobility superstore within easy reach of every major population centre in the UK. Your franchise could be the next step in that journey.
